This is college football at its finest!
That had to be one of the wildest and most mind-boggling endings ever witnessed in a game. Virginia Tech’s head coach, Brent Pry, completely mismanaged the clock, practically gifting the game to Miami as his team stumbled down the field. Then, in an act of sheer desperation, Kyron Drones tossed up a Hail Mary on the final play, and somehow — with everyone, including the officials, scratching their heads — someone caught it. In a bizarre turn of events, the refs initially called it a touchdown, even though a Miami defender emerged from the pile with the ball. The replay showed the ball slipping out of the receiver’s hands at the end, but it appeared he might have maintained control long enough for it to count.
After a lengthy five-minute review, however, the call was overturned. This sport truly is a beautiful, chaotic mess.
Both teams seemed determined to lose, and the conclusion was fitting for the drama that had unfolded. I’m still processing the final two minutes, let alone that last play.
The pass may have been incomplete, but there wasn’t enough evidence on the video to justify overturning the touchdown, in my opinion. It was one of those scenarios where the call on the field should have stood, but the ACC Replay Center overruled it, awarding the win to Miami. And let’s be honest — Miami is officially on Fraud Watch after that performance.
